Progress
Markets change. Products must reflect the latest state of the art if they are to be competitive. That is the policy of Thyssen Fügetechnik GmbH.
Our aims:
- manufacturing processes must be shortened by using new and improved methods;
- material development must be carefully planned to ensure that a tailored steel with optimum product properties is available for every application;
- one of our tasks is to extend our product range through greater manufacturing depth.

Tailored blanks are one outcome of this commitment to new technologies. Their development is a result of the growing demand for sheet formats which extend beyond the maximum rolling width and the specification of criteria which cannot be met by conventional single sheets. Tailored blanks are assembled from a number of single sheets by laser or mash-welding. The individual sheets may be made of different types of steeland can have different coatingsand thicknesses.
Tailored blanks offer the engineering designer new potential for component design. What is more, careful matching to the criteria placed on the component enables parts and components to be optimised.
Mash seam welding:
Thyssen has produced several million weld seams using this process to date.
